Hana Pa‘a, Hana Pono - Fishing Responsibly
This four-page document features the writings of local fishers and scientists regarding the health of Hawaii’s fishery resources, new information on fish life cycles, and ways to improve fishing that also benefit healthy coral reefs. Hana Paa, Hana Pono was created in support of the 2008 International Year of the Reef campaign and first published in Hawai‘i Fishing News.

The Living Reef booklet showcases the incredible biological, economic, and cultural value of Hawaiis own "rainforests of the sea." It also warns of serious threats to our reefs – pollution, invasive species, over-fishing, and marine debris – and the resulting damage to coral reef ecosystems.
The Living Reef was published in celebration of the Hawaii International Year of the Reef (IYOR) as a special insert in The Honolulu Advertiser. Contributors to the content of this booklet include The Nature Conservancy, Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources, NOAA, and Mālama
Hawaii.
